On June 11th, marking its first international female entrepreneurship barometer, Veuve Clicquot brought together eighteen well-known figures, including Venus Williams, to engage in conversations. The aim of this event was to initiate a discussion based on everyone's knowledge and experience. In France, 91% of women aspiring to be entrepreneurs consider women entrepreneurs to be inspiring, but only 12% of women can name a successful female entrepreneur . This finding has encouraged the company to reaffirm its commitment to embolden generations of women to be ever more enterprising.

Encouraging and supporting women: make way for the Role Makers!

Veuve Clicquot believes that breaking down preconceptions, removing structural and societal barriers and providing support and training will enable women to move forward and take the first steps towards entrepreneurship.

In France 28% of women want to become entrepreneurs (as opposed to 39% of men)! And because they need to work together to achieve this, the company has started discussions with eighteen Role Makers – inspiring women and men with a wealth of know-how who are committed to supporting women. There were nearly 300 people at the event, including members of associations and foundations, entrepreneurs and international laureates of the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Awards, giving their views energetically and enthusiastically.

The eighteen well-known figures, who all have outstanding experience, provided food for thought and game-changing solutions through accounts of their own experiences and surprising stories, moderated by Lauren Bastide.

The guest of honor, Venus Williams, who is not only a tennis champion, but also a founder and savvy entrepreneur, set the tone. Following the foundation of V Starr Interiors, which offers a full range of specialist interior design services for companies and individuals, and her athletic apparel brand, EleVen by Venus Williams, she spoke passionately and inspiringly about her experience growing her enterprise. “You can’t just watch, you have to take action (…) Being an entrepreneur allows you to be the leader of your own life. It is sometimes scary, never easy but always fun. Never be afraid of the battle. It’s gonna be a battle, welcome it! ”

A continuing historical commitment…

It was a logical step for our company, that had been led by an enterprising woman like Madame Clicquot when she was only 27 years old, to start a public debate about women in entrepreneurship.

With its international barometer and the mobilization of Role Makers1, Veuve Clicquot wants to be a driving force, making a real contribution to society. This important network of inspiring women and men has been built for nearly 50 years through the Women's Business Award created in 1972 and the New Generation Award in 2014 with the aim of encouraging and supporting future generations. New laureates will join them, following the 2019 Awards, which take place throughout the world all year long.

 “Our desire to encourage women to be bold, to assert themselves and to take the plunge pushes us ever further”, said Jean-Marc Gallot, President and CEO of Maison Veuve Clicquot. “This is why we will not only continue to monitor change with our barometer but we will also introduce it into new countries such as the United States, Spain and Italy. In addition to this, several projects are currently under construction to increase the presence of female talent in the world of entrepreneurship. Providing visibility, stimulating debate and bringing together people who make things happen is the best way to fulfil our commitment: to inspire a new generation of enterprising women”.
