LA GRANDE DAME
TAKES A SEAT AT THE TABLE

An exceptional vintage for exceptional moments.

First, there is the story. That of an exceptional vintage named after an exceptional woman. Following the untimely death of her husband, Madame Clicquot took over the Maison aged 27. She may have been young, but she was bold and full of ideas. The young lady was to become a Grande Dame. Created in 1962 and launched in 1972 to celebrate the Maison’s bicentenary, La Grande Dame champagne pays tribute to her life’s work. A reflection of the Veuve Clicquot terroir, it embodies the Maison’s dedication to excellence.

Veuve Clicquot presence in Grand Cru terroirs dates back to 1760. Madame Clicquot knew she needed the best grapes to produce the best champagne. Thanks to her extraordinary intuition, she identified a few parcels which turned out to be some of the best in the region. She then acquired prestigious parcels like Verzenay, Verzy and Bouzy, now all classified as Grand Cru, and used in the blend of La Grande Dame.

The 2008 vintage distinguishes itself by its unique blend: 92% Pinot Noir and 8% Chardonnay. To the eye, it presents itself with a luminous, golden colour. On the palate, the attack is strong and clean. Fresh, mineral and powerful thanks to the presence of Pinot Noir, La Grande Dame 2008 strikes the perfect balance between, complexity and structure.

An exceptional vintage for exceptional moments, La Grande Dame is the obvious choice come the holiday season, pairing incredibly well with oysters, fish tartar or scallops and even better with that most festive of appetisers, caviar. In fact, Madame Clicquot herself was a great caviar amateur. As early as 1850, we find traces of a delivery for “two crates of caviar” sent by all the way from Saint Petersburg proving that some tastes never change. Especially good taste…
